Most optometrists in the province warn they will pull out of the public health care system by March 10.
The association that represents them, the AOQ, says 90 percent of its members will no longer participate in RAMQ because of unfair compensation.
Quebec's health insurance board is offering to pay optometrists $42 dollars for an eye exam on patients under the age of 18 and over 65.
The optometrist association recommends eye doctors charge $95 for private eye exams.
It says the payment from RAMQ doesn't cover operational costs.
