Quebec's 200 midwives are planning a protest in Montreal Monday morning.
They've been in talks with the provincial government on a new labour agreement for over two years, and say it's been long enough.
Jessyka Boulanger tells CTV the role of a midwife isn't taken seriously enough by the government. Midwives are asking for an increase to their on-call fees from $1.50 to $2.00 as well as a 4.5 per cent wage increase.
Barrette says he agrees with nearly all of their demands, but that the group needs to show accountability before a deal can be reached.
Midwives work in hospitals, birthing centres and in private homes. They have only been recognized by the government within the past 20 years.
The demonstration is being timed with a speech that will be given by health minister Gaetan Barrette at the Montreal Board of Trade. The protest is expected to take place at 11:45 outside the Plaza Hotel.
