Like father, like son.
Greg Kelley is the Quebec Liberal candidate for the West Island riding of Jacques-Cartier, currently held by his father Geoff Kelley who is leaving politics after this mandate.
Geoff Kelley made that announcement in June.
Greg Kelley has been working in the premier's office for the past year and has previously worked in four other ministries, including the newly created Secretariat for relations with English-speaking Quebecers.
Kelley has a Public Administration MA from Queen's University and a History and Political Science BA from McGill.
Premier Philippe Couillard was on hand for the announcement. He immediately addressed the elephant in the room and said Kelley was chosen not because of his name but because of who he is.
Kelley said he knows he'll face criticism over the issue but that he's dealt with it all his life.
"The only way to really prove to people is you go out there and work hard," said Kelley.
Kelley, 32, said he can make a difference in the riding and not just follow the status quo when his father leaves.
"Part of that is the youth, really going out there, representing the interests of young people, the Millenial generations. I look at the families in the room here, the little ones, and Jacques-Cartier has a lot of young families that have new needs, new priorities," said Kelley.
Among Kelley's adversaries:
The PQ has not yet listed a candidate for the riding.
Geoff Kelley was first elected in the riding in 1994.
