While there is no plan yet for the plan, the Quebec government has unveiled a new prevention-based health initiative it is calling the first of its kind across the continent.
The Couillard government will invest $76 million over the next 10 years for projects that look to improve overall health and quality of life.
Some of the areas that could see funding is projects for expanding affordable housing, curbing smoking and increasing home-based care services for seniors.
Beyond revealing broad strokes at a news conference on Sunday, how the money will be doled out remains to be seen. It will be another year for their is an action plan for the initiative, according to Quebec Minister for Public Health Lucie Charlebois.
“The thing is that we’re going to have a global plan with all the ministries,” she said. “The $76 million (will be added) to the $400 million existing now in the Ministry of Health and Social Services."
"It’s a start," she continued. "All the other ministries are already doing some things and will put more on the table. It’s going to be done all together.”
