A Salaberry-de-Valleyfield ophthamologist is in court tomorrow to be tried on charges of illegally practicing medecine.
Dr. Hachmi Hammami faces 17 related charges stemming from early last year.
He continued to see patients and write prescriptions despite being temporarily barred from practicing in December 2014. He was then stripped of his licence last July.
In November of last year, the Quebec College of Physicians said Hammami had been found guilty of bank fraud related to his medical practice. The college of physicians said Hammami had told patients that they can pay him in cash and then be reimbursed via Medicare which was false because his name had been removed from RAMQ's list of authorized doctors.
If convicted, Hammami faces a total of over $301,000.
