A fraud investigation led the Surete du Quebec to an illegal puppy mill in the Lanaudière community of Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon Wednesday.
Police seized 74 dogs, most of which were malnourished and in poor health.
Four dead dogs were found inside the home which was so filthy that firefighters were called in to ensure the safety of the police and animal protection officers as they went about their work.
Police went to the home after receiving complaints that the vaccination certificates and health records that the owner was providing to purchasers had been falsified.
A 44 year old woman had been selling dogs on Kijiji for as much as $1200.
She faces charges of fraud, forgery and producing false documentation.
Animal cruelty charges may be laid once the investigation is completed.
