In the run-up to the last two provincial elections, New Democrats in Quebec have signalled a new provincial wing of their party was getting ready to make a splash. But in both elections, that failed to materialize. It seems that NDP insiders may be trying to make next year's election different.
Several weeks ago, the "NPDQ" re-launched its social media presence and created a new website. Now, a Facebook event has gone live promoting a coming leadership debate and forum.
The party ran a candidate in the Louis-Hebert by-election last month, but Denis Blanchette took just 1.3% of the vote. The seat was picked up from the Liberals by the CAQ. It's unclear if the new party plans to run a full slate of candidates in the next provincial election, currently scheduled for October 1st, 2018.
