Projet Montreal mayoral candidate Valerie Plante promised today that she would move next year's edition of the Formula E race to the Gilles-Villeneuve racetrack on Ile Notre-Dame.
The first ever edition of the electric car race this summer took place on the streets of downtown, looping from Rene-Levesque street around the CBC building. The road closures caused by the race's location, some of which lasted a month, rose the ire of many local residents and business owners.
Mayor Denis Coderre has said in the past that he chose to hold the race in the city to show off green technology in Montreal, and that he doesn't want to see the race moved to another location.
Ms. Plante told La Presse that by her calculations, renegotiating the location of the race would save the city around $10 million.
