Owners of a private daycare with children of their own are eligible for a handy tax loophole that could bring in several thousands of dollars each year.
If a parent runs a private daycare, not subsidized by the Quebec Government, and care of their own children during the day they can charge themselves for the work.
By billing themselves that parent can now claim the childcare expenses tax credit from both Revenu Quebec and Revenue Canada, and it's perfectly legal.
A spokesperson for the Revenu Quebec told the Journal de Montreal there is no law stopping from creating a business and offering child care services.
Because the business is considered a separate legal entity, even if the individual is employed by or owns the business, in the eyes of the law that person has all the legal right to bill themselves and take advantage of the tax credits so long as they meet all applicable conditions.
