Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre says it will be zero tolerance for the new pot stores that opened up in Montreal this morning.
But, so far, police seem to be tolerating them.
Eight stores opened this morning and the owner and marijuana activist Marc Emery says Canada's history was made by people like him, who broke the law against an injustice.
"Henry Morgentaler made our abortion laws legal this very way and contraception was made legal this very way. Women got the vote in Canada by going into ballot stations and seizing ballots and being dragged out by force," said Emery.
His wife Jodi Emery says the prime minister himself should turn himself in for possession and trafficking of marijuana for passing a joint. Justin Trudeau has admitted that he smoked pot, while he was an MP.
Marc Emery handed out free samples to some of the first customers to his store on Mount Royal E. this morning.
"This is a great thing, as you can see there's may people here today that are celebrating the culture of cannabis," said one of the store's first customers.
Emery says he's ready to go to jail, if police come for him.
"I certainly am," he said. "Lock me up if you will."
