The Prime Minister is condemning violent events in Edmonton Âas a terrorist attack after a police officer was stabbed and several pedestrians were deliberately struck with a cube van.
Justin Trudeau says he is quote "deeply concerned and outraged'' by the violence.
The chaos began outside the Edmonton Eskimos football game at Commonwealth Stadium when police say a car rammed a traffic control barricade and sent an officer flying into the air.
Edmonton police Chief Rod Knecht says the car driver got out and attacked the officer with a knife before fleeing.
The officer was treated for non life-threatening injuries while a manhunt was launched.
Knecht says an Islamic State flag was found in the car.
A few hours later, a U-Haul cube van was stopped at an impaired driving checkstop north of downtown.
Knecht says the name of the driver was close to the name of the registered owner of the car that hit the officer.
He says the U-Haul then sped off with police in pursuit and intentionally swerved at pedestrians in crosswalks.
Four people were injured by the van, however, the extent of their injuries wasn't immediately known.
The van eventually rolled near a downtown hotel and a 30-year-old suspect was arrested.
Knecht says the man is known to police, but didn't release his name.
