The carelessness of a daycare worker in south shore Beloeil could have had serious consequences for children there.
A kitchen worker at the L'Ours, La Fouine et le Lion daycare accidentally spilled some of their personal prescription drugs onto plates containing pieces of quiche that were about to be served to children — all under the age of five — for lunch on Tuesday.
Another daycare worker discovered the pills as the meals were being served.
Daycare officials say the quiche meals were quickly disposed of once the discovery was made, and substitute meals were served instead. Nonetheless, workers contacted a poison control centre for advice, and sent letters home to parents informing them what happened.
None of the children appear to have suffered any ill effects of the mishap, but at least one parent turned to social media to relay her concern after she received the letter.
"They opened a file at the poison control centre, but they didn't want to tell us what kind of medicine it was," the parent wrote on Facebook. "I called the poison control centre myself. I find the situation unacceptable. What would you have done in my place and what do you think of the situation?"
The pills in question were apparently sort of diabetes medication.
Officials at the daycare say the employee, a relative of one of the co-owners, will no longer be bringing their pills to work.
