Quebec's premier is making a link between the victory speech by the new leader of the Parti Quebecois and extreme-right populist leaders in Europe.
Philippe Couillard says fear is behind nationalism advocated by Jean-François Lisée, adding it's similar to populist parties overseas.
The premier, in Iceland for a conference, says under Lisée's leadership, the PQ is becoming the party of exclusion, humiliation and withdrawal.
Couillard also says he sees “a movement fundamentally negative for humanity.”
Lisée has suggested the roughly 50,000 immigrants Quebec accepts yearly might be too much, adding the Auditor General should have a mandate to cap immigration levels.
