The 22-year-old Montreal man who is charged with murder and attempted murder after a shooting spree in Pointe-aux-Trembles last December will have to wait a while longer for the start of his preliminary hearing.
Frédéric Gingras was in court this morning for what was supposed to be the start of his two-day preliminary inquiry.
But Gingras' lawyer said they'd have to postpone the hearing to November because of his client's mental state and the prescription medication he's taking.
Kaven Morasse said doctors upped the dosage to prepare Gingras' mental state for the hearing.
"We feared that his state of mind did not allow us to go forward with the preliminary hearing that was supposed to take place this morning," Morasse told reporters.
Morasse said all options are on the table including a defence of non-criminal responsibility.
Gingras appeared alert and fidgety in the prisoner's box. He did not acknowledge his mother who was sitting in the front row in the courtroom. Family members of the victims were also in court.
Gingras is charged in the first degree murders of James Jardin, 20 and Chantal Cyr, 49. Jardin was shot and killed at his home and Cyr was killed at a gas station where she was picking up her daughter who was finishing up her work shift. Gingras is also accused in the attempted murders of Annie Baiillargeon and Gerard Lalonde.
