The Montreal transit corporation has decided that a poster for an upcoming series of performances by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens is too violent for commuters. It is not permitting the ad in the metro system.
The poster campaign features principal dancer Vanesa Garcia-Ribala Montoya striking a pose while wrapped in a bloody white sheet. There is a large spike sticking out of her foot.
Les Grands Ballets says the performances of Stabat Mater next month will feature music by Pergolesi evoking the suffering of the Virgin Mary after the loss of her son, thus the blood and the big nail in the photo
The transit corporation says the image breaks advertising industry rules against exploiting or inciting violence.
