The head of the Montreal Police union ( Fraternité des policiers) says he has no intention of apologizing or resigning over allegations that a police investigation was shut down under political pressure.
Yves Francoeur told a Montreal radio station Thursday morning that it was his duty to speak out about influence peddling involving Liberal Party officials and he was acting in good faith.
The Sûreté du Québec issued a report this week which concluded that the allegations were unfounded.
Francoeur says he was surprised because he has never seen an investigation take statements from 60 people with no charges being laid.
This week, the Mayor of Quebec City Régis Labeaume called for Francoeur`s resignation while Liberal House Leader Jean-Marc Fournier demanded an apology.
Fournier was one of two MNA`s that Francoeur said who had moved to block a police investigation.
Francoueur`s comments were the first since the Sûreté report was released Tuesday.
