The province's Bureau of Investigations is looking into a high speed chase on the West Island early Monday which led to the suspect being shot by Montreal police.
The suspect was shot and tased after he apparently tried to run police officers down in a stolen vehicle.
The BEI says the 28-year-old man has been brought to hospital by Montreal police for treatment of a drug problem. A short time later, he left the hospital and stole a vehicle.
The vehicle was later spotted in the parking lot of a shopping mall on Sources Blvd. in Dollard des Ormeaux. Officers fired on the suspect after he tried to run them over before fleeing along westbound Highway 40.

Police later gave chase, which ended at around 1 a.m. near Boul. des Anciens-Combattants when the driver crashed head-on into a police car. At that point, the man was tasered by police, who discovered that he had been shot outside the strip mall.
The man was taken to back hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The BEI says some police officers — it's not clear exactly how many — also had to be treated for minor injuries.
The eastbound portion of the highway was closed for several hours — right through Monday morning's rush hour — while police and the BEI conducted their investigation.
All three eastbound lanes were reopened just before 9:30 a.m.
The BEI is asking anyone who may have witnessed the event to contact them at bei.gouv.qc.ca.
