Tenants of an apartment complex in Pointe-Saint-Charles have been given three weeks notice by the city to find a new place to live because it says their building is unsanitary and dangerous.
The Journal de Montreal says the tenants on Centre St. don't know where they'll go - one man has been on a waiting list for affordable housing for four years and worries he'll be out on the street.
The report says the building has water infiltration, mold, vermin problems and electric systems that don't conform to standards.
The city reportedly says the evacuation is necessary and the short notice is normal because of the urgent circumstances, noting that residents will get help from its housing service.
Another tenant told the newspaper that the service just gave her a list of possible apartments that are located far from her current home and are far more expensive.
