The City of Pointe-Claire has launched a new green initiative aimed at helping save residents money and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.
"We care about sustainable development and we want to offer our residents even more concrete ways to help protect our planet," Mayor John Belvedere said in a statement.
The West Island municipality is now offering grants up to $200 for the purchase of reusable diapers, feminine hygiene products, and incontinence products. The city is one of the first in Quebec to offer grants for the three product categories.
According to Pointe-Claire, a child that hasn't mastered the art of using a big kid potty will use approximately 6,000 disposable diapers, which is about one tonne of waste. One washable diaper is equivalent to about 300 disposable diapers.
