There's plenty of reaction following news that Montreal MNA Gerry Sklavounos, who's currently facing sexual assault allegations, is on medical leave for now.
The Laurier-Dorion MNA left the Liberal party to sit as an independent after the accusations were made public against him last week by former hostess and waitress Alice Paquet.
PQ leader Jean-Francois Lisée said Sklavounos shouldn't be away for too long.
"Obviously, he wouldn't be very productive in the short term. But, basically, he is paid to represent the people of his riding and at some point he should do so" said Lisée.
Some MNA's told CTV Sklavounos should quit politics all together.
"I cannot imagine him sitting just behind me, sitting anywhere in this room," said Quebec Solidaire's Manon Massé.
Nathalie Roy, the CAQ critic for the status of women, feels the same way, saying Sklavounos has the right to stay, but the moral obligation to leave.
"It's his own right to do so, he has the right to remain, but I urge him to think and to think what it's going to do to the MNAs and the National Assembly," said Roy.
Premier Couillard wouldn't venture to guess how long Sklavounos should stay away from work when asked about a medical leave for non-health, personal matters.
"I would have absolutely no comment on this, you'll ask Mr. Sklavounos about that", said the premier.
Sklavounos has not been charged.
Quebec City police are investigating.
