The federal government has given the green light to a construction plan involving the Radio-Canada building in Montreal's east end.
It'll be built at the corner of René Levesque and Papineau.
"Receiving Treasury Board approval is a critical step in making this project a reality, said Hubert T. Lacroix, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada. It's another vote of confidence by the government in our efforts to modernize our operations. The new MRC will set the stage for Radio-Canada to become a multiplatform public broadcaster capable of thriving in today's digital and media environment."
Construction of two towers is slated for later this year, but Broccolini Construction still needs approval from the city of Montreal and several other parties.
Radio-Canada, scheduled to take possession of its new facility in early 2020, will have a 30-year lease for the building as the sole tenant.
The Mach Group has secured approval for a plan to level the current, long-standing tower on René-Levesque Blvd. and put up new residential towers.
