The mother of a man whose pitbulls attacked and disfigured a little girl in Brossard in 2015 has pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing bodliy harm for not being able to control the dogs.
The Journal de Montreal reports Hyacinthe Parker, 72, had left the dogs unattended in her partially enclosed backyard when they escaped and ended up in a park where the attack occurred.
Parker caught up with the dogs but couldn't stop them from attacking 8-year-old Vanessa Biron.
It was only when Parker's son Karim Jean-Gilles arrived that the attack stopped - he grabbed the dogs by their paws and dragged them away. The dogs had no collars or leashes.
Biron spent eight hours in surgery after the dog's fangs punctured her skull and crushed her jaw. Today, half of her face remains paralyzed with a visible scar. Bironalso suffers from an uncontrollable fear of dogs.
Parker was sentenced to three years of probation and 240 hours of community work. She also has to make a $2000 donation to Ste Justine Hospital where the victim was treated. Parker won't be allowed to possess any animals during the probation period.
Both Parker and her son received tickets totalling nearly $3800.
Parker had given the authorization to have the dogs euthanized.
Parker's son also faces a charge of criminal negligence. A trial date is expected to be scheduled.
