It's a nod to the quick response and flood relief efforts deployed in the off island community of Pincourt in the spring of 2017 when snowfall and heavy rain caused record flooding in southern Quebec.
The town received the "Mérite" award in the Quebec government's disaster response category.
Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Security, Geneviève Guilbault, recognized Pincourt's emergency response system and credited the city workers, firefighters and teams of volunteers who worked diligently to shore up walls of sandbags to protect vulnerable homes and businesses.
Guilbault called Pincourt proactive, citing firefighters and emergency workers for erecting dikes in strategic spots to help stave off rising water levels in the Ottawa River.
The award was handed out during the 22nd “Mérite” award ceremony, held at the Centre des congrès de Québec.
