Once Halloween is officially over and done, one of the most contentious pilot projects ever concieved by the city of Montreal will come to an end, too.
On Thursday, through traffic will once again be permitted on Mount Royal, along Camillien Houde Way and Remembrance Rd.
The Plante administration closed the mountain passage in early June, as part of a pilot project aimed at considering the pros and cons of barring through traffic on the mountain. Despite an online petition with more than 36,000 names on it opposing the move, mayor Valerie Plante urged Montrealers to give it a chance — insisting she wanted to make the mountain more bike- and pedestrian-friendly.
At the time the pilot project was introduced, the administration promised there would be public consultations on the matter, to be carried out by Montreal's Public Advisory Board. Those will continue through the end of November.
