Pierrefonds-Roxboro mayor candidate Justine McIntyre promises to ease up traffic on Sources, St. Charles, and St. Jean by establishing a fourth north-south artery to get to Highway 40.
She says the land between Timberlea and the Cineplex Kirkland is undeveloped and primed for the new artery, but the land is owned by the transport ministry, which doesn't appear to be in a hurry to build a new road.
"We would like to talk about ceding the land to the city so the city can be the one that goes forward with the project and so we don't have to wait on the Quebec transportation minister," says McIntyre.
She says the transport ministry seems to be waiting for more urban development west of Kirkland before building the road — but that the people living in the western part of Pierrefonds are already hemmed in.
McIntyre and her team Vrai Changment Pour Montréal imagine it will be an accessible boulevard, with seperated bike paths and sidewalks, and most importantly — no more car dealerships.
"It's not going to be a highway, we're not going to create a bridge over Ile Bizard," she says. "We're not going to create the same sorts of mistakes that were made with the current boulevards St. Charles, St. Jean and Sources, where we've had some very poor urban planning."
