Montreal's public consultation office has released a scathing report on a residential development project proposed by the city.
The L'Anse-à-l'Orme residential project would be built on 360 hectares of privately-owned land in western Pierrefonds, land that includes green space, wildlife and wetlands. Under the proposal, 5,500 housing units would be erected on the land, and could include about 180 hectares of green space.
In its report, the Office consultation publique de Montréal heavily criticizes development plans as well as municipal officials for a lack of transparency. It also points out that 87 per cent of those who attended public consultations last spring opposed the project.
In addition, the OCPM says the city has failed to answer several important issues, such as the actual number of endangered species in the area, the potential for flooding on the land due to construction, and transportation issues.
Opponents of the proposal are planning a protest at Pierrefonds borough hall which would take place Monday evening.
