Former cabinet minister Pierre Moreau says he will not run for the leadership of the provincial Liberal Party. He made the announcement in a post on Facebook.
Moreau, who represented the riding of Chateauguay in the National Assembly for a decade, lost his seat to the CAQ at this fall's election.
He was considered a frontrunner in the race to succeed Philippe Couillard, had he chosen to run. In the 2013 leadership election, Moreau lost to Couillard in the race to succeed Jean Charest.
The 61-year-old served as Minister of Transport, Municipal Affairs, Energy and Natural Resources and President of the Treasury Board under the Couillard Government.
He said in an interview with Radio-Canada that he wants to see a generational change in leadership, adding he hopes that Couillard's permanent successor is in their thirties or forties.
