An 82-year old man being treated for a heart attack and pneumonia called 9-1-1 this week, after he spent 36 hours on a hospital gurney, only to be transferred to the basement of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and left all alone.
Gilles Tremblay, a retired priest, began to feel unwell at a seniors residence in Pointe-aux-Trembles on Friday and was rushed to hospital.
He tells the Journal de Montreal that after spending 24 hours on a stretcher in the emergency ward he asked his doctor to transfer him to a room.
Tremblay says that 12 hours later he was moved to the basement and left next to the mortuary and across the hall from the entrance to a washroom.
He says he was completely alone on the floor and after an hour he called 9-1-1 for help.
Shortly after,he was transferred to a bed on the ninth floor but not before being chastised about making the call and being told that he would have been placed sooner, but the bed he was in had to be sanitized because the previous patient had died.
