April 1, is no joke in Montreal: Work on a couple of metro stations is going to force the closure of two streets for several months.
The STM plans to refurbish the waterproofing membrane at both the Atwater and Jean-Talon metro stations.
For the work at Atwater:
De Maisonneuve Blvd. will be completely closed to traffic between Atwater and Wood Aves.
STM
Access to the metro and its surroundings will be maintained at all times. A pedestrian path and bike lane will connect Atwater and Wood Aves, via De Maisonneuve Boulevard.
The closure will be in place until December 2019, but returns in March of 2020 and remain until spring 2021.
For the work at Jean-Talon:
Jean-Talon will by completely closed to traffic between Saint-Denis and De Saint-Vallier.
STM
Some good news for pedestrians and businesses as access will be maintained at all times during the work, with pedestrian traffic being forced to the south side of Jean-Talon.
The STM did not say how long the closure will last, only noting the detour will be in place until summer 2019.
