The killer who took the life of a 15-year-old Dorval girl almost 25 years ago will remain behind bars after a parole board in B.C. denied his third attempt at release.
"I'm just ecstatic that they made the right decision and they made it so quickly," said Michael Manning, the father of Tara Manning.
"That's a half cigarette later and we went in and the parole board members read their decision."
CJAD 800 reached Mr. Manning in Vancouver after he flew all the way out there to give a victim impact statement at yesterday's parole hearing for Gregory Bromby.
Manning said he's not surprised by some of the reasons for denying Bromby's release - that he was caught with pornography in prison and uttered threats to female prison guards.
Manning is satisfied the parole board wasn't impressed with Bromby's progress in prison.
"He couldn't give answers," said Manning.
Manning said it was an emotional day and it was tough to hear his daughter's killer speak about his crime so frankly.
"He said, 'I had to shut her up so I stabbed her and stabbed her and stabbed her,' " said Manning.
Bromby, a minor at the time, stabbed Tara Manning 51 times after raping and smothering her.
Manning has travelled out of Quebec to attend Bromby's parole hearings before. He said he believes being there in person makes a difference and he'd do it again.
"I think that these people look at us, look at the emotion," said Manning.
Manning said Bromby apologized yesterday for the pain and suffering he caused but Manning said he takes it with a grain of salt.
"Too little, too late," said Manning.
