Paramedics in the province that were originally going to cut back on work last Friday in protest of stalled contract talks aren't closing the door on a strike.
Originally the plan was to strike last Friday and Saturday. A hearing into essential services required for residents was tabled but cancelled, with the union then advising the tribunal it would no longer strike on those day.
Instead, the union says it will get new strike mandates from its members for the new year, one that could see Quebec's 3,600 unionized paramedics provide fewer essential services.
If the union is successful getting a legal mandate to alter essential emergency services, the strike could begin at some point in 2017.
Several issues are in dispute at the bargaining table, including salaries, phased retirement, as well as workload and health and safety issues.
