Quebec emergency personnel unionized workers say they intend to walk out December 15th should they not have a new collective bargaining agreement by that date.
Over 3,600 paramedics, ambulance dispatchers and other health care workers are represented by the Confédération des syndicats nationaux, including Urgences Santé personnel in Montreal and Laval.
Unions voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action last month. CSN-FSSS representatives and management will have to determine minimum staffing levels that would be needed during a potential walk-out, as the workers' jobs are considered essential services.
A union spokesman says negotiations had been dragging to the point where it was decided it wasn't worth waiting to call for a strike.
