They may not be starring in the latest Marvel super hero blockbuster, but heroes they are.
Kanak, a black lab, and Bouffon, a 3-year-old lab mix, were inducted into Quebec's Animal Hall of Fame Sunday.
Bouffon is a MIRA-trained service dog credited for saving the life of his owner.
Jacques Millette is deaf, mute and uses a wheelchair to get around. Last year, while working in his basement a blowtorch slipped from his hands and set fire to the room.
As the flames spread quickly Millette fell from his wheelchair.
Bouffon was there and with one arm Millette grabbed on to his fur as he dragged the man to the safety of the home's elevator.
“Bouffon came to see him, to find out what was going on. If it wouldn’t have been for Bouffon, Mr. Millette wouldn’t be with us today,” Jean Gauvin, President of the Quebec Order of Veterinarians told CTV Montreal.
“It’s so important to celebrate this, because we want to spread the good news,” he said.
As for Kanak, he's no stranger to awards, with two provincial ones already under his collar.
The black lab works with the Sherbrooke Police department as Quebec's first service police dog. Kanak helps to put victims of domestic and sexual abuse at ease.
“He really helps the police force have a better communication with kids and the elderly,” Gauvin said. “You go up, you’re in uniform, and you try to explain something – but very frequently [victims] are afraid of the authorities. But when they go with Kanak, it changes the situation completely."
