Mayor Valérie Plante said it's "absolutely" worth it to be spending over $600-thousand dollars in legal fees over the cancellation of the Formula E race.
The city's executive committee gave the greenlight for the costs last week.
Plante cancelled the contract once she was voted into office.
The race was held in summer 2017 during the mandate of her predecessor Denis Coderre.
Formula E organizers are suing the city for almost $25M for breach of contract. The courts last week dismissed the city's bid to halt the lawsuit.
Plante said they won't be intimidated and she has no regrets.
"Let's not forget that an entire borough in Ville-Marie said, ' We don't want this anymore.' So I feel very confident that we took the right decision." Plante told reporters.
The city was also facing a $33M lawsuit from the firm overseeing the bankruptcy of non-profit company Montreal, it's electric (PwC Canada) to pay creditors but the company has since bowed out of the lawsuit.
