There were over 48,000 noise complaints filed last year about Trudeau Airport, with over half of them reported by 20 people.
This is the first time the airport authority has unveiled a detailed breakdown of complaints and changed its method of recording them.
In the past, the Aéroports de Montral (ADM) recorded one complaint per resident per 24 hour cycle. For 2019, they counted the total number of complaints and since the process was different, they say they can't compare data from previous years.
Complaints linked to airplanes operating out of Trudeau Airport:
Most of the complaints were about the flightpaths, were reported during the day and came mostly from Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Villeray-St-Michel-Parc Ex and Notre Dame de L'ile Perrot.
The ADM wants your input in its online questionnaire on how to better manage airplane noise.
"It's really to have feedback from the community," said spokesperson Anne-Sophie Hamel in an interview with CJAD 800.
Bill Mavridis created an app that instantly files and emails noise complaints to the ADM. He said an independent party should be handling the survey.
"I notice there's one question they don't ask - "Are you interested in reducing flights from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.?' " said Mavridis.
"There's a conflict of interest between what the airport does and what the island of Montreal citizens want."
Hamel said the issue of night flights could be addressed in the future.
"Instead of basing our criteria on weight, it would be on the type of aircraft," said Hamel.
The survey is available until the end of the month.
