A councillor in Outremont who is also a member of the Hasidic Jewish Community is upset over the borough adminstration's decision to hold its monthly meeting Monday evening, which also happens to be Rosh Hashanah.
Projet Montreal's Mindy Pollak says she asked the borough a year ago to schedule the meeting away from the Jewish New Year.
According to the Montreal Gazette, agenda items for the meeting include determining the dates and times to hold a referendum on an Outremont bylaw prohibiting new places of worship from being opened.
Pollak says it's the third time a meeting has been called on a Jewish Holiday.
Under the bylaw, no new synagogues, mosques and churches would be allowed to open on Bernard and Laurier Avenues. The Bernard register received enough signatures to trigger a referendum, which is expected to be held next month.
