If you've ever wanted to own a piece of Montreal's transit system, there'll be plenty of them on offer on Sunday as the STM holds what it calls a vintage garage sale.
Old fare boxes, metro signage (including those iconic black platform banners with the station's name), and parts of the recently retired MR-63 cars will be just some of the items for sale between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday at its Bellechasse garage, at 5990 Casgrain St.
“We’ve managed to collect a number of vintage items, and now it’s time to find them a new home," says STM chair Philippe Schnobb. "In response to our customers’ wishes, the STM is creating an opportunity for collectors and Montréal public transit history buffs to acquire a variety of items."
To give everyone a chance to own a piece of history, the STM says each person will be allowed to buy no more than three of any given item. They also won't allow people to place orders.
Proceeds from the garage sale will be handed over to charity, and any unsold items will be put up for sale on the Boutique STM web site.
