Urgence Québec has identified nearly 2,400 flooded homes across Quebec and more than 700 others that have become isolated by the recent swell in floodwaters.
The largest floods are near Lake Saint-Pierre, Lake of Two Mountains and the Chaudière River, in the Beauce region, where many families had to be evacuated.
Environment Canada says the melting ice and snow is what will continue to feed streams and other waterways in Quebec - not the rain that is expected over the coming days. In some spots, water levels are starting to diminish but those are exceptions, not the rule.
Members of the Canadian Armed Forces have been deployed across Quebec, with 200 in Laval and 600 overall, including in Rigaud.
For its part, the Red Cross has launched an emergency fundraising campaign to help flood victims. The organization also announced an online registration database for households affected by flooding, which it said would be used to hasten financial assistance.
On Sunday, the VP for the Red Cross in Quebec, Pascal Mathieu, told CJAD800 News that the list may also be shared with governments that request the information, but didn't have detgails on how that would work
Also on Sunday, Premier François Legault floated the idea that his government could force flood victims to relocate, because taxpayers should not have to pay to repair flood damage homes repeatedly.
In Laval, the one bridge to Ile-Bigras remains safe, although the water level is now just a few feet from the bottom of the bridge's deck structure.
