A burst pipe in the basement of the now-closed Pioneer Bar in the Pointe-Claire Village caused water to gush from the 117-year-old building.
Crews from the city's public safety services began pumping water onto Lakeshore Road starting just before 8:00 pm.
The building has been vacant since the Pioneer closed over the summer. It became the subject of heated debate when the bar was sold to a developer with plans to build a luxury condo complex on the land, including on the nearby parking lot on Lakeshore Road.
Last month, Pointe-Claire's mayor John Belvedere announced the city would put that condo project on hold, but the future of the much-beloved former bar remains in question, especially with water damage from today's incident.
