It looks like the snow removal work that began Wednesday night will be completed sometime over the weekend. According to the City of Montreal, the job is already around 60 percent finished after less than two days.
However, some areas of the City are doing better than others. So far, the borough that is having the most difficulty keeping up with the snow is the Southwest. At the time of writing this, the Sud-ouest had only just reached its halfway point.
“It’s my first time here, but my wife works here all the time and it’s terrible,” said this Île Perrot resident who was searching for parking near a school. “It should be a priority and no – it’s almost the last area that the snow is being removed.”
Not everyone shared that opinion, including this Sud-ouest resident.
“I don’t have a car, so I don’t mind,” she said. As for sidewalks? “They’re ok. They’re ok.”
However, another longtime resident in the same neighbourhood that I took a walk with said she often looks to a neighbouring municipality when she wants to get out to enjoy winter.
“If I want to jog, I would run up to Westmount and jog around Westmount because the sidewalks are clearer. So, Sud-ouest is struggling usually for snow clearing? Yes, on the corners - it’s very slippery.”
Montrealers looking to stay on top of snow removal in their area can download the City’s new app, INFO-Neige, or can they can visit Montreal’s snow removal website.
