A North Shore mother says her 8 and 11 year old sons face racial hatred from other students at their English elementary school on a daily basis — and that the Sir Wilfred Laurier School Board isn't doing enough to stop it.
Adrienne Charles says her two boys are some of the only black children at McCaig Elementary School in Rosemere, and that other students have been routinely calling them the n-word and other racial slurs. In another incident she says a girl refused to take her son's hand because he was black.
"They're sad about it, my younger kid who is 8 is saying why don't they like black people? Why don't they like me? What did I do?" Charles tells CJAD.

"When my kids are in the school or in the bus, they're the responsibility of the school. They have to do something," Charles says.
She's demanding a stronger response from the school. Though the school board won't say what exactly has been or will be done due to confidentiality concerns, chair Jennifer Maccarone says addition action will be taken.
"It's not over, we will continue to reach out to her to try to find a way to repair the situation, rectify it and ensure it doesn't happen again," Maccarone told CJAD.
