Frozen raspberries imported from China, containing the Norovirus, made hundreds of Quebecers sick last summer, in some cases consumption even proved fatal.
That's what a recent public health assessment says.
The fruit, used in other food products and used for cooking in hospital cafeterias, for example, prompted recalls.
Ice cream, cakes, yogurts and pies were among the recalled products.
The virus is a highly contagious bacteria that can lead to long and severe gastro.
It's not clear how many Quebecers died.
At least 724 Quebecers fell ill after consuming the tainted fruit -- figures that healh professionals believe represent only the "tip of the iceberg."
