An inmate who was nearly stabbed to death at the maximum security prison in Ste-Anne-des-Plaines has been denied parole.
Ghislain Gaudet was repeatedly stabbed last November, an incident in which former Hells Angels leader Maurice "Mom" Boucher and another inmate face attempted murder charges. Gaudet is serving a life sentence following a botched prison escape in 1978 and was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of a prison guard in that incident.
According to the Montreal Gazette, Gaudet has been a problematic inmate throughout his sentence and was placed in isolation after he returned to prison from the hospital.
Preliminary hearings for Boucher and Rene Girard were held in St-Jerome Thursday. The judge still must determine whether their trials will continue there or be moved to Montreal.
