Some merchants at Fairview Pointe Claire got a little confused and concerned when they received expropriation notices this week related to the light rail project.
Merchants told CJAD 800 News they received the notices earlier this week from the Quebec Attorney General representing the Transport Ministry and light rail project officials.
They said they didn't know what to make of them, confused and worried by the French-only legal jargon informing them about the parcels of land targetted by the expropriation and informing them about vacating the property by July. Some said they were afraid that meant their business would have to close.
But a spokesman for the light rail project told CJAD 800 News that the property in question is a small strip of the parking lot along Highway 40 and doesn't affect them at all.
The spokesman said the notices are standard procedure to let merchants know what piece of land is involved.
The land will be used to build the above-ground structure of the light rail running along Highway 40.
The spokesman made reassurances that neither the mall nor access to the mall are affected and that the impact on parking will be "minimal."
