An investigative report shows that while some of the names have changed, many of the construction industry players mentioned during the Charbonneau inquiry continue to land contracts with the City of Montreal.
The joint report by The Gazette and La Presse shows that management overhauls and mergers haven't really cleared the playing field, and the remnants of suspect companies continue to dominate city infrastructure work.
The newspapers says between 2013 and this month, 43-percent of payments made by the city to private companies went to 20 contractors specializing in infrastructure work.
The Coderre administration insists that competition for city contracts is healthier than ever, with an average of seven bidders for each job, compared with under four prior to 2013.
