The new regulations for driving with young children come into effect Thursday.
As part of the province's update to the Highway Safety Code, passed in 2018, children younger than the age of nine or shorter than 4'9 (145 centimetres) are required to use a booster seat.
The previous law only required a booster to be used if the child's sitting height was under 63 centimetres.
On Quebec's automobile insurance board's (SAAQ) website, it describes the three types of convertible seats that should be used, depending on the height and weight of the child:
Motorists who do not follow the new regulations could face fines between $80 and $100 and three demerit points.
