Montrealers may soon be seeing more police officers on patrol.
The interim police chief Martin Prud'homme says he wants to move police officers from desks to the streets.
Prud'homme says his first objective is to carry out a complete review of the current police administration to see if some officers can get back to basic police work.
Prud'homme is the head of the Sûreté du Québec and was given a one year mandate in December to re-organize the Montreal force after former chief Philippe Pichet was suspended over a report which cited his 'total lack of leadership' in dealing with long standing issues at the force that included a number of irregularities with internal investigations.
Prud'homme was named head of the Sûreté du Québec in 2014.
The Journal de Montreal says at that time he conducted a review of procedures and reduced the number of deputy directors to three from five and cut the number of high ranking officers from 400 to 320.
