An NDG landlord has lost his fight in court after getting a $1000 ticket for not having removed graffiti from his building.
"i didn't like it, I didn't like it at all," said Edward Kalil after being ordered to pay the fine.
Kalil had to fork over $700 but the judge dismissed the $300 in court fees.
Kalil got the ticket last year.
Kalil said he tried to convince the judge that the bylaw doesn't help property owners who are constant victims of vandalism. citing his building at Sherbrooke and Westmore.
It was recently spraypainted with graffiti again earlier this month.
"It goes off and comes back on and this goes on and on and on," Kalil told CJAD 800 News.
"Like I've spent probably over thousand bucks or more just getting it off over the year."
The judge said the law is the law - building owners are responsible to keep their property graffiti-free.
Kalil is now lobbying to change that law.
"I think city hall should come up with a better solution than what they have now - not just put the responsibility on the landlord but also put responsibility on the perpetrator," said Kalil.
"They shouldn't just put the responsibility on the landlord but it's also a social issue."
