The Montreal Transit Corporation has a message for commuters.
Stop dropping your phones on metro tracks.
More than 130 people people walked on the tracks in 2017, usually to retrive something they dropped, including a cell phone.
The MTC said 550 delays last year were caused by someone dropping something on the tracks.
The transit corporation's now distributing velcro straps at stations, as part of an awareness campaign, designed to loop around a phone case and the user's hand.
The MTC also said part of the reason for increased metro delays in 2016-17 is technical problems, but it's also because people interfere with train operation, including holding doors open at a station.
