Pointe-Claire and Baie d'Urfé are the latest cities in Quebec that have banned pot smoking in public spaces.
Both cities adopted the bylaws at their last council meetings.
If you're caught lighting up a joint on a Pointe-Claire sidewalk or near one of its outdoor aquatic and sports facilities, you can be fined between $500 and $1500 and then up to $3000 for a repeat offence.
Pointe-Claire and Baie d'Urfé join other West Island and off-Island communities such as Pierrefonds-Roxboro, Vaudreuil-Dorion and Dorval who have adopted or will be adopting similar bylaws.
But Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue and Lachine are among those going the other way - allowing you to smoke marijuana in public places where you can already smoke tobacco, just like the city of Montreal.
Kirkland told CJAD 800 it will be reviewing its regulation at the next council meeting.
Other towns such as Terrasse-Vaudreuil are still waiting to see what kind of marijuana policy the incoming CAQ government will introduce before making a final decision.
The Coalition Avenir Quebec and its leader François Legault had promised during the recent election campaign it would ban marijuana smoking in public places in the province.
Île-Perrot also said they haven't really decided yet pending the government's position but that for now they will stick to the status quo which is the provincial law regulating tobacco use - so no smoking in school playgrounds or within nine metres of the entrance to a building. The same goes for Pincourt.
CJAD 800 is waiting on responses from other West Island and off-island communities.
Recreational marijuana becomes legal next Wednesday, October 17.
